🌈 CLUB KIDS AS WRITERS 🤘👅
Updated: Dec 29, 2020
The club kids were a fashion phenomenon of the late 80s and early 90s known for their outlandish costumes and behavior in the club and rave scene. For me, the club kids represented a freedom of expression, as well as a sense of belonging, particularly for those who had been ostracized because they did not fit into cultural and social norms. They created a place that celebrated individuality and promoted inclusivity and diversity. I recall walking into a rave the first time dressed up as a club kid (I had weaved my hair into a spiderweb, wearing a tarantula bra, my body covered in cobwebs). There was a sense of joy and freedom that I had been searching for all my life because I had finally found somewhere it was okay to be me.
